LOT Docklands
Publication 1
“LOT by Sem Langendijk is a paper print publication, part of
his ongoing project about the transition of the Docklands in
various cities worldwide. This publication focuses on the
neighborhood Red Hook in Brooklyn, New York.
Evolving from his work in
the docklands of Amsterdam, Sem Langendijk moved to New York
to research the similar environment. Through his descriptive,
highly detailed photographs he questions the function of
public space within the residential area in Red Hook. His work
balances on the very narrow edge between visual storytelling
and poetic personal documentation. As an observer he remarks
the details in his subjects, carefully distancing himself just
enough to stay neutral in his observations. A mix of
landscapes, people and details of these exteriors reflect the
current state of this neighborhood, with its contrasts and
diversity”, 27 urban photographs taken in New York, printed on
8 loose A2 sheets, folded around a cardboard insert (37 x 25,5
cm) with an English text on it by Marijn Ferier, and a
picture post card, all in a transparent plastic envelope (37 x
26 cm), numbered/250, n.p. 2016

The N-U Niddrie Heart
“The plea to preserve the whole ‘body’ is transformed in The NU
Niddrie Heart into the larger ecological question of the survival
of the planet, to which the subject matter of the two books
contained in each piece indirectly refers. Latham has always
believed that permanence lies in the idea of an ever-present
universal recurrent event rather than in the physical object, and
sees the planet as a uniquely “scored” event. Just as the glass in
the multiple will remain after the books and other organic
material in the multiple have decayed, the universe will remain
long after our kind humanity has disappeared”, catalogue of
sculptures made with glass sheets and books in such as a way that
the books appear to be floating in the air, with an introduction

Emperors Of Ice Cream
ink drawings of fantastical
figures balancing colourful ice cream cones, inspired by “The
Emperor of Ice-Cream”, a poem by Wallace Stevens,
“The black ink drawings included here allude to such
characters as manifested in a series of peculiar emperors,
each grounded by the white of the page, the starkness of
winter. Be they dead or alive, many of these emperors are busy
trying to get somewhere, while others seem utterly content or
confused where they stand. Colourful snakes, twisting and
unruly, emanate from waffle cones, their frozen bodies handled
with a playful confidence. If anything, this book becomes a
medusa's head, gently writhing in the grasp of your
warm-blooded fingers”, edited by Jacquelyn Ross, soft
cover, 20 x 14 cm, 100 pages, ed/250, signed, Canada 2017
